Bring complex science and engineering to life through 3D

M&S Consulting is looking for a 3D Animator to create cinematic visual experiences around scientific, engineering, and technical subjects.

This isn't simply a character-animation role. You'll work across the full 3D production pipeline, transforming technical information, real-world data, machinery, spacecraft, and scientific concepts into visual stories that people can understand.

The position would suit an experienced 3D generalist who is equally comfortable thinking about technical accuracy and cinematic presentation.

What you'll create

You'll take projects from early visualization and animatics through to polished final sequences.

Your work will include:

  • Producing high-quality cinematic 3D animations from pre-visualization through final render.
  • Modeling and preparing detailed assets for technical and scientific scenes.
  • Creating textures, materials, lighting, and environments.
  • Rigging and animating machinery, spacecraft, instruments, and robotic systems.
  • Building planetary and other environments that support scientific or mission-based storytelling.
  • Rendering, compositing, and preparing sequences for final video delivery.
  • Turning complicated engineering concepts into visual narratives that are easier to understand.
  • Working with creative teams and technical specialists to keep the work visually compelling while maintaining scientific accuracy.
  • Refining animations in response to both creative and technical feedback.

What they're looking for

Your portfolio will be particularly important. M&S Consulting wants to see strong examples of cinematic 3D animation and visualization rather than expertise limited to one stage of production.

You should have hands-on experience across areas such as modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, rigging, animation, rendering, and compositing.

Experience with tools such as Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, and After Effects is relevant, alongside a strong understanding of motion, timing, composition, and cinematic lighting.

You should also be comfortable taking a storyboard, pre-vis, or animatic and developing it into a finished piece.

Particularly valuable experience

There's an unusually technical side to this position.

Experience working with CAD data and preparing CAD models for animation would be valuable, as would previous work visualizing mechanical systems, robotics, engineering processes, space, or planetary environments.

Knowledge of real-time rendering workflows, particularly Unreal Engine, is another advantage.

M&S is also interested in animators who have previously collaborated directly with engineers, scientists, or other technical subject-matter experts.

About M&S Consulting

Founded in 2002, M&S Consulting works with enterprise organizations on technology, process, and transformation initiatives. The company has built its approach around small, highly skilled teams and long-term client relationships.

For this role, you'll combine that technical environment with visual storytelling, helping translate subjects that can be difficult to communicate through words or diagrams alone.
