Maven Clinic is hiring a Conversational AI UX Writer to help define how its digital healthcare platform and AI-powered assistants communicate with members.

This remote, part-time contract opportunity is designed for an experienced UX writer who combines strong product content expertise with practical knowledge of conversational AI and large language models (LLMs).

You'll play a central role in shaping the language, personality, and interaction patterns of Maven's AI agents while ensuring that every interaction remains clear, supportive, clinically appropriate, and aligned with the company's brand.

Beyond conversational AI, you'll develop and improve UX copy throughout Maven's digital products, including care plans, onboarding experiences, navigation, educational content, and AI-related disclosures.

Working directly with engineering, clinical, product, and design teams, you'll help translate complex requirements into accessible, human-centered experiences.

The initial contract is expected to last three months, with the possibility of an extension depending on business requirements and mutual fit.

Key Responsibilities

Conversational AI, Voice & Tone

  • Establish and refine voice and tone principles for Maven's AI-powered assistants.
  • Evaluate real AI conversations to identify opportunities for clearer, more empathetic, and more accessible communication.
  • Assess language complexity, emotional sensitivity, word choice, and consistency across AI-generated responses.
  • Develop conversational guidelines that reflect Maven's brand while accounting for the capabilities and limitations of LLM technology.
  • Collaborate with engineering and clinical teams to identify effective and ineffective conversational patterns.
  • Translate findings from conversation reviews into actionable recommendations for improving AI prompts and evaluation processes.
  • Recommend structures for AI responses, including when to provide options, ask follow-up questions, or direct users toward additional support.
  • Consolidate feedback from clinical, product, engineering, and brand stakeholders into consistent language recommendations.
  • Help define appropriate boundaries for AI interactions, particularly when responses should be deferred or escalated.

UX Writing & Product Content

  • Write and refine interface copy across Maven's digital healthcare platform.
  • Create clear, supportive language for care plans, AI assistant introductions, and onboarding experiences.
  • Improve navigation labels, calls to action, empty states, error messages, and in-product educational content.
  • Help explain AI functionality to users, including its benefits, limitations, and appropriate applications.
  • Develop understandable disclaimers and expectation-setting language for AI-supported healthcare experiences.
  • Balance clinical accuracy, regulatory considerations, and accessibility with an approachable brand voice.
  • Collaborate with product designers to ensure copy supports visual hierarchy, usability, and design system standards.
  • Contribute to naming strategies for products, features, programs, and AI agents.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineers, clinicians, product managers, designers, and content specialists.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to align product language with applicable requirements.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and additional brainstorming sessions as needed.
  • Document voice and tone principles, conversational patterns, naming decisions, and research findings.
  • Communicate content changes and recommendations clearly so teams can maintain consistency.
  • Independently manage deliverables and priorities within a part-time schedule.

Requirements

Professional Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in UX writing, product copywriting, or a closely related discipline.
  • Direct experience working with conversational AI, virtual assistants, or LLM-powered products.
  • A strong online portfolio demonstrating relevant UX writing and conversational product work.
  • Understanding of how AI assistants are developed, evaluated, and improved.
  • Experience analyzing AI conversations or user feedback and converting findings into practical product recommendations.

UX Writing & Conversation Design Skills

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and content strategy capabilities.
  • Ability to adapt language to different emotional contexts, reading levels, and user needs.
  • Experience developing, applying, or evolving brand voice and tone guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of conversational interaction patterns and human-centered communication.
  • Ability to explain complex or sensitive information clearly without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Experience naming products, features, or programs using a structured evaluation process.
  • Strong judgment when determining whether an AI assistant should respond, defer, or escalate.

Collaboration & Independent Working

  • Ability to synthesize feedback from engineering, clinical, compliance, product, and design stakeholders.
  • Confidence presenting content recommendations and explaining the reasoning behind them.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize deliverables, and communicate progress effectively.
  • Availability for approximately 20 hours per week, including scheduled meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in digital health, healthcare technology, or clinical AI products.
  • Previous collaboration with medical professionals and healthcare compliance teams.
  • Familiarity with sensitive healthcare communication and patient-facing digital experiences.
