This job is curated by UX Remote Talent from external sources. We are not affiliated with the employer.

Geisinger is looking for an Experience Design / UX Intern to help improve digital products, internal services and workflows used across its healthcare organization.

This internship offers unusually broad exposure to UX. Rather than focusing exclusively on interface design, you'll have opportunities to work across user research, interaction design, service design, information architecture, content design, design systems and emerging AI experiences.

You'll work closely with Geisinger's Experience Designer while collaborating with analysts, developers, data specialists and other stakeholders on projects used by employees and teams throughout the health system.

What you'll work on

Projects can span digital interfaces, internal processes, communications and new technology initiatives.

Your work may include:

  • Conducting and supporting user research.
  • Designing and improving intranet experiences and information architecture.
  • Creating user flows, diagrams and presentations.
  • Planning and supporting usability testing.
  • Producing technical writing and UX content.
  • Designing interactions and building prototypes.
  • Contributing to interface standards and design systems.
  • Exploring service and process design opportunities.
  • Working on AI experience design.
  • Providing UX input for dashboards and data products.
  • Creating visual and graphic communications.
  • Supporting cross-functional projects across Informatics & Analytics.

The internship is designed to demonstrate how human-centered design can improve not only interfaces, but also organizational processes, information sharing, employee experiences and the adoption of new technologies.

Who they're looking for

This opportunity is aimed at a student or early-career designer interested in gaining practical UX experience while working on complex enterprise and healthcare challenges.

Geisinger requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and highlights these core skills:

  • Computer literacy.
  • Clear communication.
  • Collaborative problem solving.
  • Ability to work with different teams and stakeholders.
  • Interest in learning and applying human-centered design.

Because of the variety of projects involved, curiosity and the ability to work across different areas of design should be particularly useful.

Tools you'll use

The primary tools and platforms include:

  • Figma
  • Microsoft 365
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Microsoft SharePoint

Depending on the project, interns may also gain exposure to additional research, analytics, development and project-management tools used within the department.

Why this internship stands out

This isn't limited to producing UI screens. The internship provides exposure to several areas that can be valuable when building an early UX portfolio:

Research → Information Architecture → Interaction Design → Prototyping → Usability Testing → Service Design → Design Systems → AI Experience Design

You'll also be designing within a large healthcare organization, where products and workflows need to work for complex groups of users and stakeholders.

Benefits

Geisinger states that healthcare benefits are available to eligible full-time and part-time positions from day one, including medical-related coverage as well as vision, dental and prescription benefits. Candidates should confirm which benefits apply specifically to the internship during the application process.
