You’ll join a multi-disciplinary product team exploring new, experimental concepts to engage future audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Simplify complexity → design delightful, accessible experiences.
  • Prototype & run experiments to validate ideas.
  • Use & evolve Wikimedia’s design system.
  • Ensure accessibility compliance.
  • Collaborate with PMs & engineers on product plans & processes.
  • Distill complex concepts into clear, engaging narratives.
  • Contribute to team operations & process improvements.
  • Mentor other designers, support team growth.

What they’re looking for

  • 8+ years in design (UX, product, or related).
  • Strong storytelling to persuade stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring designers & receiving feedback.
  • Skilled in research methods (evaluative & generative).
  • Balance between visionary ideation & tactical execution.
  • Strong prototyping ability.
  • Shares work with the global design community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in content, publishing, education, or edutainment.
  • Experience with emerging tech & younger audiences.
  • Hands-on research experience.
  • Familiarity with open source / free knowledge communities.
  • Multilingual (bonus given Wikipedia’s ~300 languages).

Team & Logistics

  • Weekly design team meetings:
    • Tues: 15:00–16:00 UTC (11a–12p ET / 8–9a PT)
    • Thurs: 14:00–15:20 UTC (10a–11:20a ET / 7–8:20a PT)
  • Product team syncs: 17:00–21:00 UTC (1–5p ET / 10a–2p PT).

Compensation

  • US pay range: $134,133 – $208,254 (adjusted by location).
  • Non-US hires via Employer of Record in eligible countries.
  • Competitive & equitable comp, aligned with Wikimedia’s values.
