The Wikimedia Foundation (the nonprofit behind Wikipedia) is hiring a Lead UX Designer to help shape the user experience of the Wikipedia iOS app, while also contributing to select Android features. You’ll lead the UX direction for the product team, working closely with product managers, engineers, and fellow designers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead UX efforts for Wikipedia’s iOS app
- Simplify complex workflows into intuitive, delightful experiences
- Create prototypes and test ideas through user research
- Apply accessibility standards and Human Interface Guidelines
- Contribute to and evolve the Foundation’s design systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor junior designers
- Engage openly with global communities of users and contributors
What They’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience designing native mobile apps
- 8+ years of overall experience in UX/product design
- Strong portfolio showing mobile design work
- Deep knowledge of UX principles, accessibility, and design systems
- Experience mentoring others and leading design projects
- Skilled in both research (generative & evaluative) and hands-on design
- Fluent in English and comfortable working in cross-cultural teams
- Available for meetings between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM UTC
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with internationalization/localization
- Background in publishing, education, or knowledge platforms
- Familiarity with open source or free knowledge communities
- Multilingual skills
