Newsela is seeking a Learning Experience Designer to build high-quality, scalable curricula aligned with state frameworks. This role requires deep expertise in ELA curriculum development for middle and high school, with a strong focus on California ELA/ELD standards and creating resources for multilingual learners and striving readers.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary subject matter expert on ELA curriculum creation.
- Collaborate with curriculum teams and external vendors to develop, review, and refine lessons, assessments, pacing guides, and instructional materials.
- Ensure materials are culturally responsive, equitable, accessible, and aligned with state standards.
- Provide expert feedback on formative and summative assessments to measure student mastery.
- Manage and scale vendor and contributor collaboration and quality control processes.
- Create project checklists and innovative solutions to ensure timely delivery and pedagogical quality.
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in curriculum development or instructional design within a core curriculum provider.
- Expertise in middle and high school ELA curriculum and state standards, especially California.
- Experience reviewing assessments, lessons, and training materials for K-12 ELA.
- Strong knowledge of instructional strategies for ELA and ELD, especially digital learning.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- Experience with curriculum development software and vendor collaboration is a plus.
