HubSpot is hiring a Principal Product Designer to help shape the future of prospecting across its AI-powered customer platform.

This is a senior individual-contributor role focused on a large product challenge: bringing together outbound prospecting, AI-assisted inbound qualification, and marketing-generated demand into a more connected experience across HubSpot's sales, marketing, and service ecosystem.

Rather than owning a single feature or interface, you'll work across products and teams to define how these systems should work together. The role sits within Sales Hub but has broad influence across HubSpot's wider product organization.

You'll also help establish how AI agents, users, tools, and business data interact as prospecting becomes increasingly automated.

What You'll Do

Create Connected Product Experiences

  • Design across complex workflows spanning sales, marketing, and service products.
  • Bring currently fragmented prospecting experiences into a more coherent system.
  • Explore how outbound AI agents, inbound lead qualification, and demand-generation workflows should connect.
  • Simplify sophisticated systems without removing the controls and information users need.
  • Consider the needs of different user types, including administrators and day-to-day product users.

Define Product Direction

You'll operate beyond feature-level execution and contribute directly to product strategy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a long-term design vision for prospecting.
  • Identifying opportunities across HubSpot's broader product ecosystem.
  • Working with product, engineering, and design leadership to determine direction.
  • Challenging existing assumptions and proposing new approaches.
  • Helping teams navigate ambiguous, cross-product problems.
  • Moving into new high-impact problem areas once the initial prospecting challenge has been addressed.

Design for an AI-First Product

AI is central to the problem space.

You'll explore new interaction models for agentic and AI-powered workflows, including how responsibilities should move between people, automated agents, and existing systems.

You'll need to think carefully about issues such as:

  • User visibility and control over automation.
  • Data reliability and availability.
  • AI usage costs and predictability.
  • Privacy and legal constraints.
  • User expectations around intelligent automation.
  • How AI changes established sales and prospecting behavior.

The goal isn't simply to add AI features to existing interfaces, but to rethink how these workflows should operate when intelligent agents become part of the product experience.

Lead Through Influence

As a Principal Designer, you'll have substantial influence without necessarily having direct authority over every team involved.

You'll:

  • Collaborate across multiple product teams.
  • Partner with senior product and engineering leaders.
  • Guide and support senior designers working within related areas.
  • Create alignment between teams with different priorities.
  • Communicate complex product ideas clearly.
  • Present strategic design thinking to senior stakeholders, including VP-level leadership.

What HubSpot Is Looking For

Strong candidates will bring significant experience tackling complex product and systems-design problems.

HubSpot is particularly interested in designers who have:

  • Designed interconnected experiences across multiple products, platforms, or workflows.
  • Worked on mature products with substantial complexity and scale.
  • Strong systems-thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent interaction-design judgment.
  • Experience turning complicated systems into understandable user experiences.
  • The ability to distinguish between the needs of different user roles.
  • Experience influencing product direction across teams.
  • Strong storytelling and presentation abilities.
  • Confidence communicating with senior leadership.
  • The ability to create alignment without relying on formal authority.
  • A thoughtful perspective on AI-powered and agent-based product experiences.
  • Comfort operating in areas where established UX patterns may not yet exist.

What You Don't Need

Previous experience designing prospecting software isn't required.

HubSpot also doesn't require deep expertise in CRM, marketing, or sales products before joining.

The company is looking primarily for product-design leadership, systems thinking, interaction design expertise, and the ability to tackle large ambiguous problems.

This also isn't primarily a visual-design specialist position. Designers can build on HubSpot's established design systems while concentrating on the broader experience and interaction model.

Experience Level

This is one of the most senior individual-contributor positions on HubSpot's product design career path:

Product Designer → Senior Product Designer → Staff Product Designer → Principal Product Designer

HubSpot notes that Principal Designers joining the company often have approximately 12+ years of experience, although this isn't presented as a strict minimum. Candidates whose experience and portfolio demonstrate the required level are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual cash compensation: $269,360–$384,800 USD

The stated cash range can include base salary and, where applicable, bonus targets or on-target commission. Individual compensation depends on factors including experience, skills and qualifications.

Some positions may also qualify for HubSpot equity through restricted stock units (RSUs).

HubSpot provides a broader benefits package and supports flexible working arrangements, although specific eligibility and conditions can vary by location and role.

Working at HubSpot

HubSpot operates a flexible workplace model with both remote and office-based employees.

Product employees should expect some in-person interaction as part of that model, including events such as Product Group Summits and other team gatherings.

The Principal Product Designer will report to the Senior Director of Product Design for Sales Hub and collaborate with senior and staff-level designers alongside product and engineering leadership.

Why This Role Stands Out

This isn't simply a Principal Designer position at a major SaaS company.

It's a chance to influence how an established product ecosystem transitions toward AI-native and agentic workflows.

The designer will be asking questions that are becoming increasingly important across the industry: What should an AI agent handle? What should remain under direct human control? How should users understand what an agent has done? And how do multiple intelligent systems become one coherent product experience?

For senior product designers interested in the intersection of systems design, AI agents and product strategy, this is a particularly notable opportunity.
