Workiva is hiring a Principal Product Designer to define the long-term experience strategy for its enterprise platform, with a particular focus on AI-powered experiences, complex workflows and systems thinking.

This is a senior design leadership position operating across UX, product strategy and platform architecture. You'll help determine how AI changes the way customers work — from intelligent automation and generative interfaces to experiences where human judgment remains an essential part of the process.

What You'll Lead

You'll influence both the future of the Workiva Platform and the systems and interaction models that support it.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Defining long-term UX strategy across the Workiva Platform.
  • Creating experience direction that connects product strategy, technology and business objectives.
  • Envisioning new AI-powered product experiences.
  • Designing around generative interfaces, intelligent recommendations and automation.
  • Simplifying complex and established enterprise workflows.
  • Identifying where human review, judgment and escalation belong within AI-assisted processes.
  • Leading discovery across ambiguous, cross-functional challenges.
  • Establishing reusable interaction patterns and information architecture across multiple products.
  • Partnering with Product and Engineering leadership on platform and technical direction.
  • Helping evolve Workiva's design systems and governance.
  • Mentoring Lead and Senior Product Designers and raising design standards across the organization.

Designing the Human + AI Experience

A major part of this role is determining how people should interact with increasingly intelligent systems.

You'll explore where AI can automate or accelerate work while ensuring users retain appropriate visibility, control and decision-making authority.

That includes designing experiences around:

  • Generative AI interfaces.
  • Agentic technologies.
  • Intelligent automation.
  • AI recommendations and decision support.
  • Human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Review and escalation patterns.
  • Complex enterprise data and workflows.

Workiva is also interested in designers who already use AI within their own design process, particularly for discovery, prototyping and synthesis.

What You'll Need

This is a Principal-level opportunity requiring substantial product design experience.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • 10+ years of Product Design, UX or related experience, particularly with enterprise or platform products.
  • Experience taking products from 0→1 and subsequently scaling them.
  • Relevant education in Design, HCI or a related discipline, with alternative experience/advanced-degree combinations also considered.

What Will Make You Stand Out

Workiva is particularly interested in candidates with experience:

  • Influencing product and experience strategy at a senior level.
  • Designing sophisticated enterprise workflows.
  • Working within ambiguous or emerging technology areas.
  • Designing AI-powered products.
  • Working with AI/ML and agentic technologies.
  • Creating human-in-the-loop AI experiences.
  • Using AI for design discovery, prototyping and synthesis.
  • Establishing scalable UX patterns and architecture.
  • Working across APIs, platform ecosystems and design systems.
  • Collaborating deeply with Engineering, Data Science and Research.
  • Leading design innovation through experimentation and new tools.

Compensation

The US salary range for this position is:

$177,000–$284,000

Workiva also states that eligible compensation may include:

  • Annual discretionary bonus.
  • Restricted Stock Units.
  • 401(k) matching.
  • Comprehensive employee benefits.

Final compensation depends on factors including experience, qualifications and location.

Why Workiva?

Workiva builds software used by organizations to manage complex finance, risk and sustainability information.

Its platform brings together data and workflows that executives, boards and regulators rely upon, making this an opportunity to design sophisticated products where accuracy, transparency and trust are particularly important.

You'll work at the intersection of enterprise UX, platform design and emerging AI technology, with considerable influence over how those experiences evolve.

Work Environment

The position supports remote work within the employee's country of employment and may involve up to 25% travel.

AI Product Design is becoming a Principal-level skill

A $177K–$284K Principal Product Designer role asking for experience with AI/ML, agentic systems, human-in-the-loop workflows and AI-assisted prototyping is another strong signal of where senior Product Design is heading.

Designlab's AI Product Design Certification helps experienced UX and Product Designers build practical skills around AI-powered products, AI-assisted workflows and prototyping — including a portfolio-ready capstone project.
