Design how millions of players discover their next favorite game

Yahoo is looking for a Principal Product Designer to lead the discovery experience for Yahoo Games, shaping how users find, explore, and return to games across one of the internet's largest consumer ecosystems.

Rather than focusing on gameplay itself, you'll design the experiences that happen before someone starts playing—creating engaging entry points, recommendation surfaces, and cross-platform experiences that turn casual visitors into active players.

This is an opportunity to combine product strategy, UX design, growth thinking, and creativity to influence experiences used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

What you'll do

As Principal Product Designer, you'll own the end-to-end discovery experience across Yahoo Games.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing game discovery experiences across Yahoo products, including News, Mail, Finance, and Sports.
  • Creating engaging browse experiences, recommendation modules, and acquisition funnels.
  • Bringing personality, delight, and playful interactions into discovery surfaces.
  • Collaborating with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Analytics, and Creative teams to launch new experiences.
  • Using research, analytics, experimentation, and A/B testing to optimize engagement.
  • Building high-fidelity prototypes using Figma and AI-assisted design workflows.
  • Contributing to Design Systems and scalable product frameworks.
  • Participating in playtests and user research to better understand player behavior.
  • Exploring AI-powered workflows that improve design quality and team efficiency.

What they're looking for

You'll be a strong fit if you have:

  • 10+ years of Product Design experience building consumer-facing digital products.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strategic leadership and shipped products at scale.
  • Experience designing growth, discovery, recommendation, or acquisition experiences.
  • Strong UX, interaction, visual design, and information architecture skills.
  • Experience designing for desktop and mobile web platforms.
  • A data-driven approach supported by experimentation, analytics, and user research.
  • Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Engineers, and executive stakeholders.
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills.
  • Experience working with Design Systems across multiple products.
  • Proficiency with Figma and modern AI-assisted design tools such as Cursor or Claude Code.

Nice to have

  • Experience working on gaming products.
  • Familiarity with casual or puzzle games.
  • Interest in player psychology, engagement, and retention.
  • Passion for creating experiences that feel playful, engaging, and memorable.

Why join Yahoo Games?

Yahoo reaches nearly 900 million users worldwide, connecting people with products across news, finance, sports, entertainment, and gaming.

As part of Yahoo Games, you'll help define how millions of users discover games every day—creating experiences that blend product strategy, growth, UX design, and moments of delight before gameplay even begins.

You'll join a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of gaming, media, AI, and consumer product design, with the opportunity to influence products at global scale.

Benefits

  • Flexible remote and hybrid work options across the United States.
  • Competitive salary, annual bonus opportunities, and comprehensive benefits.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Healthcare coverage.
  • Backup childcare support.
  • Education and professional development stipends.
  • Opportunity to work on products reaching hundreds of millions of users.
  • Collaborative culture focused on innovation, inclusion, and continuous learning.
