Product Designer — Analytical Writing Specialist

OpenTrain AI is looking for an experienced Product Designer with exceptional analytical writing skills to help train next-generation AI systems.

Instead of spending most of your time creating interfaces, you'll apply your product design expertise through written reasoning, design analysis and evaluation — helping AI models understand how experienced designers make decisions, evaluate trade-offs and connect design choices with user and business outcomes.

The opportunity is fully remote and open worldwide, paying $90–$140 per hour on a contractor basis.

No previous professional AI experience is required.

Use your Product Design expertise to train AI

Modern AI systems need more than examples of finished interfaces. They also need high-quality human input that captures the reasoning behind good product design.

That's the focus of this role.

You'll create and evaluate written material explaining how experienced Product Designers approach problems, including:

• Why one design direction might work better than another
• How user needs influence product decisions
• How business objectives affect design strategy
• How designers navigate technical and product constraints
• What trade-offs exist between different solutions
• How design decisions affect the overall user experience
• How complex product concepts can be communicated clearly

Your professional judgment will become part of the training material used to improve AI systems.

What you'll work on

The work is primarily text-based rather than visual production.

You'll be responsible for tasks such as:

• Writing structured analyses of product design decisions
• Explaining design rationale and expected user impact
• Evaluating and critiquing product information
• Comparing alternative design solutions
• Identifying important trade-offs and constraints
• Writing and refining design documentation
• Creating specifications
• Reviewing detailed case studies
• Translating complex UX and Product Design concepts into accessible language
• Generating and evaluating text for AI training
• Synthesizing complex information into clear recommendations

You'll also collaborate asynchronously with project stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure your work meets the expected standards.

AI experience isn't required

OpenTrain isn't primarily looking for AI specialists.

It's looking for Product Designers whose existing professional expertise can help AI systems learn better product design reasoning.

That makes this particularly interesting for experienced designers who want to gain direct exposure to AI development without first needing experience at an AI company.

Your ability to reason about products — and clearly articulate that reasoning — is the core skill.

Strong writing is essential

This isn't simply a Product Designer position where writing is a secondary skill.

Analytical writing is one of the core requirements.

You should be comfortable explaining complex design decisions in professional English and structuring arguments so that someone outside the immediate design context can understand:

• The problem
• Available options
• Relevant constraints
• Design rationale
• Trade-offs
• Expected outcome

Experience writing design specifications, documentation, critiques or detailed portfolio case studies is particularly relevant.
