Design services that millions of people rely on.

Some digital products help people shop or book a holiday.

Others help dispatch ambulances, support emergency services, process public services, and improve healthcare.

NEC Software Solutions is looking for a Senior Interaction Designer / Senior UX Designer to join a high-profile government programme where thoughtful design decisions can directly improve how public services operate across the UK.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and designing services that have a genuine social impact, this role offers the opportunity to work on products that matter.

What you'll be working on

You'll lead interaction design across a large-scale public sector programme, collaborating with researchers, developers, product specialists, and client stakeholders to deliver user-centred digital services.

Your work will include:

  • Designing accessible user journeys and interaction patterns for complex government services.
  • Working within the UK Government Digital Service (GDS) framework and standards.
  • Using Figma to create and communicate design solutions across the delivery lifecycle.
  • Supporting products through GDS Design & Build phases and assessment milestones.
  • Facilitating discussions with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders to balance user needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.
  • Helping shape design decisions in fast-moving, high-impact delivery environments.

What they're looking for

This opportunity is ideal for experienced interaction designers who have previously worked on UK Government Digital Service (GDS) projects.

You'll stand out if you have:

  • Strong experience delivering interaction design for GDS programmes.
  • Advanced Figma skills.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary Agile teams.
  • Confidence managing complex stakeholder relationships and navigating ambiguity.
  • Eligibility for UK Security Clearance and NPPV3.

Experience within government, public safety, justice, policing, or Home Office projects is highly valued.

Why consider this role?

Few design roles give you the chance to influence services that millions of people depend on.

From emergency response to healthcare and public administration, your work will contribute to digital experiences that support essential public services across the UK.
