Senior Product Designer

When should AI replace an interface entirely?

That's one of the questions Degreed wants its next Senior Product Designer to answer.

Degreed builds enterprise learning technology that helps employees develop skills, discover learning opportunities, and increasingly interact with AI-powered coaching. Its platform ranges from complex administration tools for learning teams to much lighter experiences for individual learners.

The design challenge isn't simply adding AI features to those products. Degreed wants designers to reconsider which interactions still need a traditional interface and which can be handled by AI behind the scenes.

What you'll work on

You'll own product design from the initial problem through launch, working directly with Product Managers and engineers rather than designing something and handing it over.

Your work will include:

• Designing experiences across Degreed's learning, skills, and AI-powered products.
• Turning ambiguous customer requests into clearly defined product problems and buildable solutions.
• Conducting discovery research and usability testing directly with customers.
• Creating interactive, near-functional prototypes to test ideas before committing to a direction.
• Designing both traditional interfaces and conversational or agent-based experiences.
• Simplifying existing areas such as admin settings, profiles, and core learning workflows.
• Extending Degreed's component-based design system while deciding when new patterns are genuinely necessary.
• Following features through implementation, QA, launch, and measurement.

AI isn't just another feature here

A particularly interesting part of this role is the emphasis on AI-native product design.

For each workflow, you'll need to consider whether users actually need another screen—or whether AI could complete some of the work for them.

But automation also needs boundaries. You'll think about whether an AI-driven action remains observable, reversible, and auditable, particularly when removing traditional UI.

Degreed is therefore looking for someone with practical knowledge of prompt engineering and conversational agents, as well as enough technical understanding to recognize limitations around accuracy, latency, and context.

You'll also use AI-assisted tools yourself to prototype interactions, compare design directions, and explore workflows faster.

What they're looking for

This is a senior role for a designer who can combine strong visual and interaction design with systems thinking and product judgment.

You should be comfortable:

• Owning complex product problems from discovery through delivery.
• Designing polished interfaces as well as broader interaction models.
• Working with enterprise products and complex user needs.
• Building prototypes with code or AI-assisted tools.
• Designing and testing conversational AI experiences.
• Conducting customer research and turning findings into product decisions.
• Working deeply with component-based design systems.
• Presenting your reasoning and defending important UX decisions while still incorporating cross-functional feedback.

The team works closely across disciplines, so this isn't a traditional design-to-development handoff environment. You'll be expected to stay involved as the product is actually built.

Compensation

The listed total pay range is $140,000–$160,000, with the final package determined by factors including experience, skills, location, certifications, and internal equity.
