Senior Product Designer

This isn't a role for someone who just wants to ship screens

Kota is looking for a Senior Product Designer to take a leading design role within Kota Embed, its embedded insurance and retirement product.

The company is trying to make workplace benefits feel more like modern software. Its products already support tens of thousands of employees across European companies, and Kota has raised more than €20 million since being founded in 2022.

For this position, they're looking for a designer who enjoys the difficult part: turning complicated systems, technical constraints and uncertain requirements into products people can actually understand and use.

What you'll be designing

Kota Embed allows insurance and retirement products to become part of other platforms.

That creates design problems where the interface can't be separated from the technology underneath it. Data structures, APIs, financial rules and integration requirements can all influence the experience.

You'll be expected to understand those constraints and use them to shape the product rather than simply designing around them.

Your work will involve:

• Owning UX quality while the product and underlying systems are still evolving.
• Designing complex B2B and embedded product experiences.
• Working closely with engineering on the relationship between the data model and interface.
• Turning recurring interaction patterns into reusable design-system components.
• Defining the problem, assumptions and success criteria before committing to a solution.
• Running lightweight research and usability testing when it can meaningfully reduce uncertainty.
• Using product data and tools such as Mixpanel or Datadog to inform decisions.
• Bringing engineers and other stakeholders directly into the design and research process.

Prototypes are part of the final design work

There's a strong builder mentality behind this position.

Kota doesn't want prototyping to stop at clickable Figma screens. You'll use tools such as Cursor and Claude Code to create working prototypes that can communicate interactions and behavior much more precisely.

In many cases, the prototype effectively becomes part of the specification engineers build from.

The goal is to reduce the traditional gap between design and engineering.

What they're looking for

You'll need previous experience designing complex digital products, with B2B experience particularly relevant.

Experience with API-driven products would be even more useful.

Kota wants to see evidence that you've solved products with substantial complexity underneath the interface — and that you can explain the decisions and trade-offs that got you to the final solution.

You'll also need strong fundamentals in typography, hierarchy, spacing and interaction design. Moving quickly isn't intended to mean accepting mediocre execution.

Other important strengths include:

• Systems thinking and experience with design systems.
• Rapid research and usability testing.
• Strong product judgment when research isn't practical.
• Working effectively with several stakeholders around the same problem.
• Comfort with technical constraints and data models.
• Hands-on prototyping with AI-assisted coding tools.
• The ability to influence how an entire team approaches UX rather than keeping design isolated within Figma.

Particularly relevant backgrounds

This role could be especially interesting if you've worked with fintech, insurance, financial services, employee benefits, developer products, APIs, or integration-heavy software.

The common denominator is complexity: Kota wants someone who finds difficult systems interesting rather than wishing they would disappear.
