Senior Product Designer

Chromatic
Full-time
Apply
This job is curated by UX Remote Talent from external sources. We are not affiliated with the employer.

Chromatic is looking for a highly technical Product Designer who can work across research, product design and implementation while exploring how developer workflows are changing with AI agents.

This is a hands-on role for a designer who wants to go beyond creating interfaces. You'll investigate how developers work, design complete product experiences, prototype and build interfaces in React, and help define how both engineers and AI agents apply design decisions consistently.

What you'll be working on

You'll own product experiences from early exploration through implementation, paying attention not only to how features look but also to how they behave in production.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking product experiences from initial concepts through flows and final UI.
  • Researching customer workflows and translating findings into product decisions.
  • Balancing user needs with technical constraints and business priorities.
  • Understanding the underlying systems, algorithms and policies that affect the experience.
  • Reviewing implementation quality across interactions, accessibility, content and edge cases.
  • Building and evolving scalable design systems.
  • Defining components, design tokens and guidelines that can be used by engineers and AI agents.
  • Developing agent skills and harnesses that encode design decisions into AI-assisted workflows.
  • Collaborating with Marketing on visual assets and content for launched features.

What they're looking for

Chromatic is looking for an experienced designer who combines strong UX and visual craft with a deep understanding of how technical products are actually built.

You'll need:

  • 8+ years of Product Design experience.
  • Strong UX, interaction and visual design skills.
  • Experience shipping technically complex products.
  • Ability to understand the mechanics behind the products you're designing.
  • Experience using coding agents and experimenting with AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Ability to evaluate and improve the quality of agent-generated work.
  • Experience prototyping and building production interfaces with React.
  • Strong understanding of established design patterns.
  • Ability to balance product scope against business priorities.
  • Confidence making recommendations while seeking feedback early.
  • Willingness to change direction when research or data supports a better approach.
  • Excellent written and visual communication skills.

Design systems & AI agents

A particularly interesting part of this role is the intersection between design systems and agentic software development.

You'll help create durable components, tokens and guidelines that can be understood and applied not only by engineers but also by AI agents.

That means thinking beyond traditional design documentation and exploring ways to encode design intent into the systems and workflows used to build the product.

React & technical product design

This isn't a design-only position.

Chromatic specifically wants someone comfortable building prototypes and production UI in React, giving you the ability to explore ideas directly in code and work closely with the technical implementation of the experience.

That technical understanding should also help you evaluate whether shipped features accurately reflect the original design across interactions, accessibility, copy and edge cases.

Compensation

The listed U.S. salary range is:

$143,000–$162,000 USD + equity

The role is remote and open to candidates located in North America or Europe.

Build stronger AI product design skills

AI is becoming part of the actual product-building workflow, and this role specifically looks for designers who already use coding agents, experiment with new AI-assisted workflows and evaluate the quality of their output.

Designlab's AI Product Design Certification helps experienced designers develop practical skills across AI-powered product design and rapid prototyping, with hands-on projects and a portfolio-ready capstone.

Why this role stands out

Chromatic is looking for someone who can operate across a much broader spectrum than traditional product design:

Research → UX → Visual Design → Design Systems → React → AI Agents → Production Quality

For a senior designer interested in the convergence of product design, code and agentic AI, this role offers the opportunity to work directly on the workflows shaping how software is designed and built.
