Help shape how millions of people learn online
Coursera is looking for a Senior Product Designer to work on learning experiences used at global scale.
Following the combination of Coursera and Udemy, the company is building a broader skills-development platform with an increasing focus on AI-powered learning. That creates an interesting design challenge: turning complex learning journeys, user needs, business goals, and emerging AI capabilities into experiences that still feel simple and intuitive.
You'll have ownership of established product areas and take projects from early exploration through launch and iteration.
What you'll work on
This role sits within Coursera's Design & Research organization, where you'll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Research, and Data Science.
You'll:
- Turn research findings and early product ideas into clear workflows, interactions, and polished interfaces.
- Own design projects while defining their direction, scope, and expected impact.
- Explore different approaches before translating the strongest ideas into production-ready experiences.
- Design responsive, mobile-first experiences informed by research and product data.
- Create reusable patterns and systematic solutions that can scale across the platform.
- Work within Coursera's existing design system while helping it evolve.
- Use data to establish hypotheses, success metrics, and guardrails for design decisions.
- Take products from initial definition through launch and continue improving them afterward.
- Contribute to broader product strategy rather than focusing only on individual screens or features.
AI is becoming part of the design process
Coursera is specifically interested in designers who are already incorporating AI into the way they work.
That could mean using tools such as Claude Code alongside Figma to prototype faster, explore more directions, and make ideas tangible earlier in the process.
Experience designing AI-powered products or prompt-based interactions is an additional advantage, particularly if you've worked on experiences where people and AI need to collaborate effectively.
What they're looking for
You should have 5–8 years of UX or Product Design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating ownership across the full product lifecycle.
Coursera wants someone comfortable moving between research, information architecture, user flows, wireframes, prototyping, interaction design, and visual execution.
You'll also need:
- Strong Figma and FigJam skills.
- Experience working with and contributing to design systems.
- A solid understanding of responsive and mobile-first product design.
- The ability to turn research and data into concrete design decisions.
- Strong communication skills and confidence explaining your design rationale to Product Managers, engineers, researchers, and other stakeholders.
Experience mentoring other designers is a plus, as is a genuine interest in education and how technology can improve the way people develop new skills.
