Brilliant’s mission is to create a world of better problem solvers. We build interactive learning games for math, science, computer science, and data analysis on iOS, Android, and web. There are no videos—learning happens by doing, experimenting, and discovering concepts firsthand. Our platform empowers learners to build intuition and understanding while having fun.

We serve hundreds of thousands of paid subscribers and aim to grow to millions of learners worldwide. If you’re passionate about creating elegant, interactive experiences that make complex topics approachable, this role is for you.

About the role

You’ll be a core member of the Interactives product team, designing the engaging game-like modules that teach key concepts like symbolic math, drag-and-drop coding, and neural networks—all within Brilliant’s web and mobile apps.

Your mission: craft interaction patterns that make challenging subjects addictive and intuitive. You’ll translate pedagogical needs into elegant UX, prototype high-fidelity designs, and deliver polished, scalable experiences that improve both learner outcomes and business growth.

Collaborating closely with content experts and engineers, you’ll tackle tricky design challenges, balance teaching goals with usability, and own the design process end-to-end.

What you’ll do

  • Design captivating educational games that make learning math, science, and programming addictive
  • Own and evolve Brilliant’s learning games UX across web and mobile, from onboarding through mastery
  • Invent and refine new interactive patterns (e.g., symbolic math manipulation, graph construction, coding blocks)
  • Prototype quickly and at high fidelity to validate concepts before development
  • Create polished UI, icons, motion studies, prototypes, and clear Figma specs
  • Partner with content experts to translate complex topics into clear, engaging designs
  • Extend and maintain design systems for consistency across platforms and teams
  • Uphold Brilliant’s brand and design quality at every touchpoint
  • Always ask, “How does this help our learners?”

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of product design experience, ideally in consumer apps or SaaS
  • Strong focus on building useful, usable, and desirable products
  • Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear design plans and shipped features
  • Comfortable prototyping with tools like Figma, Principle, Framer, or custom code
  • Portfolio showcasing complex, interaction-heavy features you helped build from scratch
  • Interest in Brilliant’s subject areas and how people learn
  • Clear communication and solid documentation skills
  • Willingness to experiment with new tools and workflows

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $205,000 - $230,000 per year + stock options
  • Top-tier health care with 100% premium coverage (medical, dental, vision)
  • Generous parental leave and dependent care coverage
  • Flexible PTO—average team member takes about 6 weeks off per year (including holidays)
  • Professional development stipend, home office equipment, and free food at offices
  • Systematic, transparent compensation framework—no negotiation needed
  • Location-based salary adjustments outside SF/NYC
