Set the design bar for a fast-growing fintech product

Flex is looking for a Staff Product Designer to take on some of the company's most important and complex product challenges.

Flex is building a more flexible way to pay rent, allowing people to split payments throughout the month around their finances rather than relying on a single fixed payment date.

This is a senior individual contributor role, not a management position. You'll be expected to influence product strategy, establish a high bar for design craft and help shape the direction of Flex's overall consumer experience while remaining deeply hands-on.

What you'll own

You'll lead design across flagship initiatives from early exploration through to shipped experiences.

Your work will include:

  • Defining the design vision for complex, high-impact product areas.
  • Helping establish a north star for the broader Flex consumer experience.
  • Turning research and product opportunities into clear experience strategies.
  • Taking projects from ideation through interaction design, visual execution and implementation.
  • Creating detailed prototypes to explore ideas and help teams make product decisions.
  • Working closely with Product and Engineering on complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Influencing roadmap and product strategy through design.
  • Establishing reusable patterns and helping evolve the design system.
  • Raising standards for interaction design, visual design and prototyping across the organization.
  • Mentoring other designers and providing detailed craft feedback.

Design influence without becoming a manager

Flex is looking for someone who can operate at Staff level while continuing to do the design work directly.

You'll collaborate with designers, product leaders, engineers and executives, using the quality of your work and thinking to build alignment rather than relying on formal authority.

That means being equally comfortable discussing long-term product direction and getting into the details of an interaction, prototype or design-system pattern.

AI is part of the design workflow

AI fluency is specifically important for this position.

Flex expects its Staff Product Designer to use AI throughout the design lifecycle, including research, rapid exploration, prototyping and front-end workflows.

You'll also have an opportunity to influence how the wider design team incorporates these tools into its own process.

Combined with front-end fluency, the role is particularly suited to designers who are becoming more hands-on in the space between design, AI, prototyping and implementation.

What they're looking for

Flex wants an experienced senior IC with a track record of designing and shipping complex consumer products at significant scale.

You'll need deep UX/UI expertise and exceptional craft across interaction design, visual design and prototyping.

Your portfolio should demonstrate more than polished final screens. Flex is interested in designers who can show how they influenced product direction, navigated difficult problems and ultimately shipped high-quality experiences.

Strong cross-functional communication is essential, including the ability to work with Product, Engineering, Marketing and executive leadership.

You'll also need proficiency with modern design tools, front-end development fluency, and experience incorporating AI tools into your design process.

An interest in fintech and improving people's financial experiences is particularly relevant.

Compensation

This is initially a contract position paying $125–$200 per hour, depending on experience and location.

At a standard 40-hour week, that corresponds to roughly $260,000–$416,000 annualized, although actual contract earnings will depend on hours worked and the engagement.

There is also potential for the contract to convert into a full-time position, at which point compensation and benefits would move to the applicable full-time package.

For eligible full-time US employees, Flex offers benefits including healthcare coverage, company equity, a 401(k) with company match, unlimited PTO, paid holidays and parental leave.

Flex is an equal-opportunity workplace focused on building a diverse and inclusive team.
