Gusto is a modern online platform helping small businesses manage payroll, benefits, HR, and team tools. Our mission is to empower small business owners and employees to thrive. We value collaboration, inclusion, and thoughtful design, creating experiences that make complex workflows simple and delightful.

About the Role
You’ll join the Time Tools team, focusing on time tracking, scheduling, PTO management, and project tracking. This role allows you to own end-to-end design initiatives—from customer research to shipping polished, accessible products across web, mobile, and kiosk platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate customer insights into intuitive, scalable workflows for scheduling, attendance, and compliance.
  • Design and refine multi-surface experiences (web, mobile, kiosk).
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data to define problems, set priorities, and deliver value.
  • Contribute to and maintain the design system, ensuring consistency across the platform.
  • Mentor peers and provide thoughtful design critique.
  • Balance long-term vision with short-term execution while navigating ambiguity.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in product design.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating accessible, performant, end-to-end web and mobile design.
  • Experience collaborating with Product and Engineering to shape roadmaps.
  • Customer empathy, particularly for small businesses and hourly workers.
  • Strong communication skills to align cross-functional teams.

Ideal Experience

  • Designing complex or compliance-heavy systems in SaaS, HR, or productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven experiences, including conversational UI or LLM-powered workflows.
  • Experience scaling products in fast-growing environments.
  • Passion for helping small businesses succeed.

Remote Work Info

  • Gusto supports hybrid and remote work. Employees near offices (Denver, San Francisco, New York) may be expected on-site 2–3 days per week.
  • Remote employees must have a secure, reliable internet connection.

Diversity & Inclusion
Gusto is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We provide reasonable accommodations for qualified applicants with disabilities or religious needs during the hiring process.
