About OpenTrain AI

OpenTrain connects professionals with projects focused on AI training, evaluation, and data quality. These projects give subject-matter experts an opportunity to apply their existing professional knowledge to the development of advanced AI systems.

For this opportunity, OpenTrain is looking for someone with a background in technical sales, sales engineering, or solutions architecture who can turn real-world expertise into challenging and realistic AI training material.

About the Role

As a Technical Sales AI Training Expert, you'll help create and evaluate examples that teach AI systems how to reason through complex technical sales situations.

The work sits at the intersection of technical knowledge, customer discovery, solution design, and AI evaluation. You'll create scenarios based on situations technical sales professionals regularly encounter, establish what strong responses should look like, and define criteria for evaluating AI-generated answers.

This is a remote U.S.-based contract opportunity requiring at least 20 hours of availability per week.

What You'll Do

  • Develop realistic technical sales scenarios based on buyer needs and business requirements.
  • Create exercises involving customer discovery and requirements gathering.
  • Build solution-fit assessments and product comparison scenarios.
  • Develop technical proposal and RFP exercises.
  • Create situations involving technical objections and determine appropriate responses.
  • Produce demo-planning exercises based on different customer requirements.
  • Write high-quality reference answers for AI training tasks.
  • Develop structured evaluation criteria and scoring rubrics.
  • Assess whether technical specifications and proposed solutions are accurate and feasible.
  • Review training material for technical and scientific credibility.
  • Evaluate AI-related content against established quality standards.
  • Refine tasks and answers based on reviewer feedback and calibration exercises.
  • Maintain consistency and accuracy across training and evaluation datasets.

What They're Looking For

Candidates should have approximately 3–8 years of relevant professional experience, particularly within:

  • Technical sales
  • Sales engineering
  • Scientific sales
  • Solutions architecture

You should be comfortable understanding complex customer requirements and determining whether a proposed technical solution is genuinely appropriate.

Experience with technical discovery, requirements mapping, solution architecture, feasibility assessment, and technical communication will be particularly valuable.

Technical Background

A bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is expected.

Candidates should also have a relevant technical or scientific background, which could include areas such as:

  • Engineering
  • Software or technology
  • Biotechnology
  • Chemistry
  • Clinical sciences
  • Other related STEM disciplines

Strong written English is important because much of the work involves creating precise prompts, scenarios, evaluation frameworks, and reference responses.

AI Experience

Previous professional AI training experience isn't required.

However, experience with AI evaluation, data annotation, quality assurance, content review, or other structured analytical work could make the transition into this type of project easier.

The key requirement is your ability to bring credible technical sales judgment to the evaluation of AI systems.

What AI Training Means in This Role

Rather than selling a product directly, you'll use your sales and technical expertise to help determine how an AI system should handle realistic professional situations.

For example, you might create a scenario involving a customer's technical requirements, establish which solution would be appropriate, write an expert-level response, and then define a rubric for evaluating whether an AI model reached a technically sound conclusion.

The result is work that combines domain expertise, technical reasoning, communication, and AI evaluation.

Work Arrangement

The position is:

Remote within the United States
Contract-based
20+ hours per week
English-language

This could be particularly relevant for technical sales professionals interested in applying their existing expertise to generative AI and model evaluation while building hands-on experience in the AI training field.
