Third-Person Video Data Collector

OpenTrain AI is looking for Third-Person Video Data Collectors to record real-world footage that will be used to train AI systems for robotics applications.

You'll capture video of yourself performing everyday activities, moving through different environments and navigating in or around vehicles while using an action or 360-degree camera.

This is a worldwide, entry-level contractor opportunity paying $20 per hour, with an expected commitment of at least 20 hours per week.

No previous AI training or professional data collection experience is required, but you'll need your own compatible camera equipment.

Help AI understand real-world movement

Modern robotics systems need examples of how people move and interact with real environments.

Your recordings will provide AI systems with a consistent third-person perspective showing both your full body and the environment around you.

Unlike traditional remote work, you'll naturally need to leave your desk for much of the project. Recordings can take place across:

• Indoor environments
• Outdoor locations
• Walking and movement scenarios
• Everyday activities
• Vehicle-navigation environments

You'll follow specific recording instructions for each assignment while keeping the footage natural, stable and usable for AI training.

What you'll do

Your primary responsibility will be recording continuous third-person video while completing assigned real-world activities.

Tasks can include:

• Walking through different environments
• Performing everyday activities
• Completing assigned physical tasks
• Recording indoor and outdoor scenarios
• Capturing vehicle-navigation footage
• Mounting a camera securely when vehicle recording is required
• Maintaining the required camera position
• Checking that your entire body remains visible
• Capturing enough of the surrounding environment
• Following technical and safety instructions
• Submitting recordings for quality review

Individual clips must be at least 60 seconds long and recorded at a minimum resolution of 720p.

You'll need your own action or 360° camera

This is the most important requirement to check before applying.

OpenTrain expects contributors to already have access to a compatible action camera or 360-degree camera.

Examples listed for the project include:

• Insta360 X3, X4, X5 or X6
• DJI Osmo 360
• GoPro MAX or MAX2
• Equivalent compatible cameras

Your camera should support at least a 170-degree field of view and 720p video recording.

You'll also need to be able to position it above and behind your body, angled slightly downward.

Third-person recording setup

The project requires an exocentric or third-person perspective rather than first-person footage.

Your setup needs to keep your full body consistently visible while also capturing enough of the environment for the footage to be useful.

Equipment such as a:

• Rigid backpack
• Harness
• Extension arm
• Third-person mounting system
• Secure vehicle camera mount

may help you achieve the required perspective.

The exact setup matters because submitted footage must pass the project's quality requirements before being accepted.

What OpenTrain is looking for

You don't need a professional video-production background.

The opportunity is entry-level, but you should be comfortable:

• Operating an action or 360-degree camera
• Following detailed recording instructions
• Maintaining consistent framing
• Recording stable footage while moving
• Working independently
• Paying close attention to technical requirements
• Completing real-world activities safely
• Producing continuous footage that meets quality standards

Previous experience with action cameras, 360-degree video or data collection could make the project easier, but isn't required.

Work on robotics-focused AI training

The video collected through this project will contribute to real-world robotics AI training.

Instead of labeling text or evaluating chatbot responses, you'll create visual examples showing how humans move through and interact with physical environments.

It's an accessible way for someone without a technical AI background to gain experience contributing to an AI training project.
