This job is curated by UX Remote Talent from external sources. We are not affiliated with the employer.

Nimble is looking for a UI Artist to create polished, player-facing interfaces for an AAA game development partner.

This role sits between visual design and in-engine implementation. You'll take UX wireframes and interaction concepts and transform them into production-ready interfaces, working across visual design, motion, iconography and Unreal Engine.

The emphasis is on visual craft and player experience rather than engineering, making this a strong fit for a UI designer or artist who enjoys taking an interface all the way from early concepts to its final appearance inside a game.

What you'll be working on

You'll collaborate with UX Designers, Technical UI Designers, UI Engineers and other UI Artists to develop interfaces that meet AAA production standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Turning UX wireframes and user flows into polished visual experiences.
  • Creating high-fidelity interface concepts and mockups.
  • Designing menus and navigation systems.
  • Creating HUD elements and other in-game interfaces.
  • Developing iconography and visual assets.
  • Building design systems and style guides.
  • Creating UI animations, transitions and motion.
  • Producing visual effects where appropriate.
  • Implementing finished UI artwork directly in Unreal Engine.
  • Maintaining visual consistency across the wider player experience.
  • Iterating on designs as gameplay and product requirements evolve.

You'll be expected to take features from initial visual exploration through to their final in-engine implementation.

Unreal Engine & UMG

This is an important requirement: Nimble isn't looking for someone who works exclusively in Figma or Adobe tools.

You'll need professional experience with Unreal Engine and UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics) and be comfortable implementing your final UI artwork directly inside the game engine.

You may also create or modify UI materials and basic visual effects as part of the production process.

Frontend experience with HTML, CSS or JavaScript can be useful adjacent knowledge, but is not required for the position.

What they're looking for

Nimble is looking for someone with at least 2 years of professional UI experience and a portfolio demonstrating excellent visual design.

You'll need:

  • 2+ years of professional experience creating UI from concept through completion.
  • Professional experience with Unreal Engine and UMG.
  • A strong UI and visual design portfolio.
  • Strong Figma skills.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator or comparable creative tools.
  • Excellent understanding of layout and composition.
  • Strong typography and visual hierarchy.
  • Iconography skills.
  • Understanding of interaction design.
  • Experience with UI animation or motion design.
  • Experience implementing UI inside a game engine.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across disciplines.
  • Strong attention to visual consistency and quality.
  • Ability to adapt as requirements change throughout development.

Player empathy is also important. The visual layer needs to support gameplay and usability rather than simply make the interface look impressive.

Experience that could give you an advantage

Additional experience in these areas could strengthen your application:

  • Previously shipped PC games.
  • Console UI.
  • Mobile game interfaces.
  • Responsive interfaces across different resolutions.
  • Mobile UI design.
  • UI materials and shaders.
  • In-engine UI optimization.
  • Debugging game interfaces.

Previous experience taking UI through a complete game production cycle could be particularly valuable.

Motion & interaction design

Motion plays a meaningful role in this position.

You'll create animations, effects and transitions that help communicate state changes and make interactions feel responsive without distracting from gameplay.

This requires balancing visual personality with usability — particularly for interfaces that players may interact with repeatedly over many hours.

Working across disciplines

Game UI sits at the intersection of several disciplines, so you'll collaborate closely with:

UX Design → UI Art → Technical UI → Engineering → Game Design → Production

You'll need to understand the intention behind UX flows while also considering technical implementation and the visual direction of the wider game.

Nimble expects you to work autonomously on your own features while communicating effectively with the broader development team.

Why this role stands out

This isn't a traditional web or SaaS UI position.

You'll have the opportunity to take designs beyond static mockups and see them functioning directly inside an AAA game environment.

The combination of visual design, motion and Unreal Engine implementation makes this particularly relevant for UI designers who want ownership over the complete player-facing experience — from early wireframes through to the final interface players actually use.
