This job is curated by UX Remote Talent from external sources. We are not affiliated with the employer.

M&S Consulting is looking for a UI/UX Designer who can combine product thinking with strong visual communication skills to turn complex scientific and technical information into clear, intuitive digital experiences.

This isn't a purely UX or product design position. You'll move between user experience, interface design, visual storytelling and graphic design, creating work for both digital and physical formats.

The role is fully remote and requires candidates to be either US citizens or permanent residents.

Turn complex information into intuitive experiences

A central challenge of this position is making highly technical subject matter easier to understand.

You'll collaborate with scientists, engineers, writers and other designers to transform complicated information into experiences that work for audiences who may have very different levels of technical knowledge.

Your work can include:

  • Websites
  • Digital tools
  • Interactive content
  • User flows
  • Wireframes
  • Prototypes
  • High-fidelity interfaces
  • Information architecture
  • Visual systems

You'll need to understand the information first, then determine the clearest way to organize and communicate it.

Work across UX and visual design

M&S is looking for someone comfortable moving from early UX thinking all the way through polished visual execution.

You'll create wireframes and user flows, explore interactions through prototypes and eventually translate those ideas into detailed final designs.

A strong understanding of fundamental UI/UX and information architecture principles is therefore important, but so is your ability to produce visually refined work.

This could be particularly appealing to designers who don't want to choose between UX and visual design and enjoy working across both.

Strong visual craft matters

Visual communication is a major component of this position.

M&S specifically values expertise in:

  • Typography
  • Layout
  • Visual hierarchy
  • Design systems
  • Visual communication
  • High-fidelity UI
  • Consistency across platforms
  • Production-ready design

You'll also help create and maintain visual design systems that can bring consistency to different experiences while remaining flexible enough for different audiences and contexts.

Want to strengthen your visual design craft?

Designlab's Advanced Design Craft course is built for experienced designers looking to develop stronger visual skills and produce more polished, intentional digital work.

It's particularly relevant to a role like this where typography, layout, visual hierarchy and high-quality execution are central to the designer's responsibilities.

Go beyond the screen

One unusual aspect of this UI/UX position is that your work won't stop at digital products.

You'll support the broader graphics team when projects require visual design for print and environmental applications.

That means being able to adapt a visual language across different formats rather than designing exclusively for screens.

Candidates with a background combining digital product design and traditional graphic design could therefore have a particularly strong fit.

Collaborate with technical specialists

You'll work closely with people whose primary expertise isn't necessarily design, including scientists and engineers.

Strong collaboration and communication will be essential.

You'll need to understand technical concepts, ask the right questions and translate specialist knowledge into experiences that are accessible to their intended audiences without losing important information.

The ability to work effectively with complex or technical subject matter is one of the skills M&S specifically seeks.

What M&S Consulting is looking for

Strong candidates should bring experience across areas including:

  • UI/UX design
  • Information architecture
  • Visual design
  • Design systems
  • Wireframing
  • User flows
  • Prototyping
  • High-fidelity UI
  • Typography and layout
  • Visual communication
  • Digital design
  • Print design
  • Technical or complex subject matter

You'll also need excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce work efficiently at a professional, production-ready standard.

About M&S Consulting

Founded in 2002, M&S Consulting works with enterprise organizations across the United States on technology and process challenges.

Its teams combine consulting and technology expertise to help organizations tackle complex transformation projects.

For this position, that translates into design work supporting scientific and engineering missions, where making complicated information understandable can be just as important as the visual interface itself.

Location and eligibility

Location: Remote — United States

This position is restricted to candidates who are either:

  • US citizens, or
  • US permanent residents

For multidisciplinary designers who enjoy combining UX thinking with strong visual craft, this is an interesting remote opportunity to work on complex technical problems while designing across both digital and physical formats.
