OpenTrain AI is looking for experienced UI/UX designers to apply their design expertise to projects supporting the development and evaluation of next-generation AI systems.
Rather than requiring an AI background, this opportunity is built around skills designers already use professionally: evaluating interfaces, solving usability problems, creating polished digital experiences, working in Figma, and explaining the reasoning behind design decisions.
The project is expected to run for approximately 3–6 months and is open to qualified designers across 18 countries.
What You'll Work On
You’ll create and assess digital product experiences while using professional design judgment to identify usability, consistency, accessibility, and visual-quality issues.
Your work may include:
- Designing polished interfaces and digital product experiences.
- Creating wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma.
- Developing and working with design systems.
- Turning user and business requirements into practical UX/UI solutions.
- Assessing user flows and identifying opportunities to improve usability.
- Reviewing design iterations for clarity, consistency, and visual quality.
- Applying typography, spacing, hierarchy, composition, and color principles.
- Providing specific and actionable feedback on design work.
- Documenting design decisions and explaining the reasoning behind them.
- Considering accessibility and inclusive-design principles.
- Completing project work independently within established milestones and deadlines.
What They're Looking For
OpenTrain is primarily looking for professional design expertise rather than previous AI experience.
Candidates should have:
- Professional experience in UI/UX or graphic design, with 5+ years preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with Figma and contemporary design tools.
- Experience creating wireframes and prototypes.
- Strong visual-design fundamentals, including typography, composition, color, spacing, and hierarchy.
- Experience designing websites, applications, digital products, or other complex interfaces.
- The ability to evaluate design quality and provide professional critique.
- Strong UX and usability judgment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- A portfolio demonstrating professional design work and its impact.
- The ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design is an additional advantage.
Do You Need Previous AI Experience?
No.
Previous AI experience is not required for this project. OpenTrain is looking for people who can bring established UI/UX expertise and professional design judgment into an AI-training environment.
This makes the role particularly relevant for experienced designers interested in gaining practical exposure to AI-related work without changing professional disciplines.

Interview Focus
The selection process may explore how you approach real design problems rather than your knowledge of AI.
Candidates should be prepared to discuss:
- Previous UI/UX projects and portfolio work.
- Figma workflows.
- Design process and problem solving.
- Visual hierarchy and typography.
- Wireframing and prototyping.
- UX and usability principles.
- Design critique and feedback.
- Practical design scenarios.
Why This Role Is Interesting for Designers
This opportunity sits directly between traditional UI/UX expertise and emerging AI work.
Instead of requiring designers to retrain as engineers or AI specialists, the project uses skills they already have—visual judgment, usability analysis, prototyping, interface design, and design critique—to contribute to AI development.
For experienced designers looking to add practical AI-related work to their portfolio, it offers a direct route into the field while continuing to work within their existing area of expertise.
