Intelerad is hiring a UI/UX Researcher & Designer to improve how healthcare professionals interact with medical imaging software.
This role combines user research, product design, interaction design and design systems, with a strong focus on understanding complex clinical workflows and transforming them into intuitive digital experiences.
You'll independently lead research and design initiatives across one or more product areas, working closely with product managers, developers and healthcare professionals to create solutions that support more efficient clinical decision-making.
The position is fully remote within Canada, with an annual base salary of CAD $60,000–$80,000.
About Intelerad

Its technology supports clinicians and medical teams by simplifying complex workflows, improving access to information and helping healthcare professionals deliver timely care.
Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Montreal, Canada, Intelerad employs approximately 800 people across four countries and supports nearly 2,000 healthcare organizations worldwide.
The company has also received industry recognition, including a 2026 Best in KLAS award, ranking first for PACS in Europe (UK/Ireland).
For designers, this means working on products where usability, efficiency and clarity can directly influence the experience of healthcare professionals and the patients they serve.
What you'll be working on
You'll take ownership of both research and design activities, helping shape product experiences from initial discovery through development and release.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and conducting qualitative and quantitative UX research.
- Interviewing clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Observing users and analyzing clinical workflows.
- Conducting usability testing and surveys.
- Translating research findings into actionable product recommendations.
- Creating personas, journey maps and workflow documentation.
- Designing intuitive web and mobile interfaces.
- Developing wireframes, storyboards and interactive prototypes.
- Producing detailed UI specifications for engineering teams.
- Improving design consistency across Intelerad's products.
- Presenting research findings and design decisions to stakeholders.
- Collaborating with developers throughout implementation.
- Mentoring less experienced designers and researchers.
You'll be expected to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with product and engineering teams.
UX research & clinical workflow analysis
A central part of this role involves understanding how healthcare professionals use medical imaging technology in real working environments.
You'll lead research activities designed to uncover user needs, identify inefficiencies and validate potential solutions.
Research methods may include:
- User interviews.
- Field studies and direct observation.
- Workflow and task analysis.
- Usability testing.
- Surveys and quantitative research.
- Research synthesis and analysis.
- Journey mapping.
- Persona development.
You'll work with product managers to establish research priorities, select appropriate methods and recruit participants.
An important part of the role is ensuring that research findings influence product decisions rather than remaining isolated within reports.
You'll also maintain and develop Intelerad's research repository so insights can be reused across future projects.
End-to-end UI/UX design
Beyond research, you'll be responsible for translating user insights into functional, accessible and visually consistent interfaces.
You'll work throughout the design process, from early concepts to production-ready specifications.
Your design responsibilities will include:
- Mapping complex user journeys.
- Creating wireframes and screen layouts.
- Designing interaction patterns.
- Building functional prototypes.
- Developing detailed UI components.
- Preparing design specifications.
- Evaluating usability and consistency.
- Supporting implementation with engineering teams.
You'll need to balance clinical requirements, business objectives and technical constraints while ensuring that interfaces remain clear and efficient.
The company is particularly interested in designers who can work across both web and mobile experiences.
Designing for complex healthcare environments
Medical imaging platforms present unique design challenges.
Healthcare professionals often work with large amounts of information, specialized terminology and workflows where accuracy and efficiency are essential.
As a UI/UX Researcher & Designer, you'll need to understand these environments and identify opportunities to reduce friction.
This could involve improving navigation, simplifying workflows, clarifying information hierarchy or making frequently used actions easier to complete.
The goal is to create interfaces that support clinicians rather than adding unnecessary complexity to their work.
Experience with healthcare technology or enterprise software would be particularly valuable, although it is listed as a preferred qualification rather than a strict requirement.
Design systems & consistency
You'll contribute to the development and adoption of design standards across Intelerad's product suite.
This includes helping establish consistent:
- UI components.
- Interaction patterns.
- Navigation structures.
- Visual hierarchy.
- Layout conventions.
- Design documentation.
- Usability principles.
- Accessibility practices.
You'll also collaborate with developers to resolve design trade-offs during implementation.
A strong understanding of reusable design patterns and scalable interface systems will help ensure that new features remain consistent with existing products.
Collaboration & communication
This position requires someone who can explain complex research findings and design decisions clearly.
You'll work with a range of stakeholders, including:
- Product managers.
- Software developers.
- QA teams.
- Technical writers.
- Healthcare professionals.
- Product leadership.
- Other UX designers and researchers.
You'll present research insights, facilitate design discussions and help teams align around user needs.
The role also involves providing feedback and informal mentorship to less experienced colleagues.
Although you'll have opportunities to guide others, the position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.
What they're looking for
Intelerad is seeking a designer with strong practical experience in both UX research and interface design.
The main requirements include:
- 4+ years of experience in UI/UX design and UX research.
- A portfolio demonstrating web and mobile design work.
- Experience independently planning and conducting user research.
- Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills.
- Ability to synthesize findings into actionable recommendations.
- Experience creating personas and journey maps.
- Strong wireframing and prototyping skills.
- Proficiency with Figma or Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Ability to produce detailed design specifications.
- Strong understanding of human-computer interaction principles.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
A bachelor's degree in HCI, UX Design, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Psychology, Graphic Design or a related field is preferred, although equivalent experience is accepted.
UX research & design tools
Intelerad is looking for experience with industry-standard tools used for research, interface design and prototyping.
Relevant tools include:
Design & prototyping
- Figma.
- Adobe Photoshop.
- Adobe Illustrator.
- Adobe XD or equivalent tools.
UX research
- Dovetail.
- UserZoom.
- Optimal Workshop.
- Comparable research platforms and repositories.
You'll need to be comfortable documenting research findings, organizing insights and translating them into design decisions.
Additional skills that could help
The following experience would strengthen your application:
- Healthcare IT or medical software design.
- Research involving clinicians or healthcare professionals.
- Complex enterprise software.
- HTML and CSS prototyping.
- WCAG accessibility standards.
- Inclusive design practices.
- Survey design.
- Basic statistical analysis.
- Agile product development.
- Mentoring other designers or researchers.
These are preferred qualifications rather than mandatory requirements.
Strengthen your research-driven design skills
Intelerad is looking for designers who can connect user research, product decisions and measurable improvements in the user experience.
The ability to turn research findings into effective design solutions is especially valuable when working with complex healthcare products.
For designers interested in developing a more evidence-based approach to product design, Designlab's Data-Driven Design course could be a relevant option.
The course focuses on using data and experimentation to inform design decisions, making it a useful complement to qualitative UX research skills.
While it doesn't replace specialized training in clinical research or healthcare usability, it can help designers strengthen their approach to evaluating and improving digital experiences.
