UI Visual Designer for Design Systems

OpenTrain AI is looking for a UI / Visual Designer with strong design systems expertise to contribute professional design judgment to an AI training project.

You'll review interface mockups and component libraries, identify visual and interaction issues, and explain your decisions through structured written rationales. Your work will become part of the high-quality human input used to improve how AI systems understand and evaluate interface design.

The project is fully remote, open worldwide and offers flexible scheduling at approximately 20 hours per week, with advertised compensation of $90–$140 per hour.

Use your design expertise to train AI

This isn't a traditional product design position where you'll own features from discovery through launch.

Instead, you'll apply your existing UI expertise to evaluate, explain and document good design decisions.

Your work will include:

• Reviewing UI mockups and identifying strengths and weaknesses
• Evaluating visual and interaction design
• Writing detailed rationales explaining design decisions
• Defining design-system principles, patterns and guidelines
• Reviewing and refining component libraries
• Documenting components and reusable patterns
• Creating interface mockups in Figma
• Applying typography, color, spacing and visual hierarchy principles
• Considering responsive behaviour across devices
• Evaluating usability and accessibility
• Applying WCAG principles to interface decisions
• Producing clear design documentation for different audiences

A significant part of the role therefore sits at the intersection of visual craft, systems thinking and analytical communication.

Design systems are at the center of the role

OpenTrain wants someone who understands how individual UI decisions become part of a larger, scalable system.

You'll work with Figma, component libraries and design-system documentation, evaluating whether patterns are consistent, accessible and visually effective.

Strong knowledge of typography, color theory, hierarchy, layout and responsive design will be important, but so will your ability to explain why a particular design decision works.

You'll use your existing professional knowledge to create structured feedback and training material around UI quality, accessibility, components and design systems.
