UI Visual Designer Specialist

OpenTrain AI is looking for a UI / Visual Designer Specialist to apply professional design expertise to the development of next-generation AI systems.

Rather than joining a traditional product team, you'll use your knowledge of visual design, UI systems, accessibility and design critique to evaluate interfaces, explain design decisions and create high-quality examples that help train AI models.

The opportunity is fully remote, open to designers worldwide and pays $90–$140 per hour. Previous professional AI experience isn't required.

Bring your design expertise into AI

The project is writing-intensive and combines interface evaluation with structured design analysis.

You'll be expected to look at digital experiences critically and explain what works, what doesn't and why using clear design reasoning.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Evaluating digital interfaces and identifying UI and interaction issues
• Writing structured rationales for design decisions
• Providing detailed recommendations for improving interfaces
• Developing principles and guidelines for design systems
• Reviewing component libraries for consistency and accessibility
• Creating and refining design documentation
• Producing Figma mockups when needed
• Applying typography, color, spacing and visual hierarchy principles
• Considering responsive behaviour across devices
• Evaluating accessibility and WCAG considerations
• Completing text generation, labeling and evaluation tasks used in AI training

Because much of the work involves translating visual expertise into written analysis, advanced English writing skills are particularly important.

Design expertise meets AI

One of the most interesting aspects of this opportunity is that you don't need previous AI industry experience.

OpenTrain is looking for established designers whose existing expertise can be applied to AI training. You'll contribute human judgement around interface quality, design systems, accessibility and visual communication to help improve how AI systems evaluate and reason about design.

What OpenTrain is looking for

You should have at least 3 years of professional experience in UI, visual or product design, supported by a strong portfolio of digital work.

Relevant skills include:

• UI and visual design
• Typography and color theory
• Visual hierarchy and layout
• Responsive design
• Figma
• Design systems and component libraries
• Design-system documentation
• Accessibility and WCAG principles
• Analytical design critique
• Strong written communication

Experience documenting components or explaining the rationale behind design-system decisions should be particularly valuable.

Communication is a core part of the role

This isn't a position where visual execution alone is enough.

You'll regularly need to turn complex design knowledge into precise, persuasive written explanations that can be understood and evaluated independently.

OpenTrain therefore requires fluent English and advanced written communication skills alongside your design expertise.

Experience with text labeling, text generation or evaluation/rating workflows is also relevant.
