ActAI is looking for a UX Designer to shape the core experience of an AI-native product designed to help people manage everyday tasks, conversations and workflows with minimal prompting.

You'll work at the intersection of UX, human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence, designing experiences that make complex AI behavior feel clear, trustworthy and easy to control across mobile and web.

About ActAI

ActAI is building proactive applications that bring AI into everyday activities such as communication, organization, errands and personal workflows.

Rather than requiring users to master complex prompting, the company wants its products to understand context and help complete real-world tasks with minimal intervention.

A major focus is reliability: creating AI systems capable of maintaining context and completing longer workflows while reducing errors and giving users appropriate visibility and control.

What you'll be designing

You'll own UX across ActAI's core product experiences on iOS, Android and web.

Your work will cover the complete journey of an AI-assisted task — from understanding what the user wants to do through execution, progress updates, completion and recovery when something doesn't go as planned.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing end-to-end flows for AI-assisted tasks and everyday workflows.
  • Creating experiences for capturing user intent and handing tasks over to the AI.
  • Designing progress and status experiences while AI actions are taking place.
  • Making it clear what the AI is doing, which decisions it has made and when user input is required.
  • Creating interactions that allow users to confirm, modify or take control of AI actions.
  • Designing across different system states including thinking, acting, waiting, completing, stalling and failing.
  • Building clear recovery flows when an AI process encounters a problem.
  • Producing user flows, wireframes and high-fidelity product designs.
  • Conducting usability research to identify moments where users become uncertain, lose trust or disengage.
  • Working closely with Product, Engineering and Machine Learning teams.
  • Contributing reusable patterns and components to the wider design system.
  • Creating experiences that work for both simple everyday interactions and more complex multi-step AI workflows.

Designing for intelligent systems

A major part of the challenge is designing for technology that doesn't always behave like conventional software.

AI experiences can be asynchronous, non-deterministic and highly dependent on context. Designers therefore need to consider not only the ideal user journey, but also what happens when the system takes longer than expected, becomes uncertain or cannot complete a task.

The experience should help users understand what's happening without overwhelming them with technical complexity.

You'll need to think carefully about trust, transparency, feedback, control and recovery, creating interfaces that allow AI to act proactively while keeping users appropriately informed.

What ActAI is looking for

You should have:

  • Professional UX Design experience working on consumer mobile or web products.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating both UX thinking and high-quality execution.
  • Strong user-flow and wireframing skills.
  • Experience creating high-fidelity prototypes in Figma.
  • The ability to design experiences involving asynchronous, non-deterministic and context-dependent systems.
  • Strong thinking around user trust, transparency, feedback and control.
  • Experience conducting user research and translating findings into product decisions.
  • Good judgment around usability, edge cases, failure states and recovery experiences.
  • The ability to simplify complicated system behavior for everyday users.
  • Comfort working in an environment where product requirements and scope can evolve quickly.
  • The ability to work independently and make thoughtful design decisions without excessive direction.

Working at ActAI

ActAI believes ambitious products can be built by small teams with a high concentration of talent.

The team works collaboratively but expects individuals to take ownership, bring structure to ambiguous problems and execute independently.

You'll be expected to balance speed with design quality, helping the team ship, learn from users and continuously improve the product.

Interview process

A portfolio is required as part of the application.

Candidates who appear to be a strong match can expect:

Portfolio review → Two interview rounds → Design assessment → Final decision

Interviews may be conducted virtually or onsite, with ActAI aiming to keep the process efficient and reach decisions quickly.
