UX Writer

Make complex education technology easier to understand, one word at a time

Turnitin is looking for a UX Writer to shape the language people encounter throughout its products, from their first onboarding steps to the small messages that appear when something goes wrong.

Turnitin has spent more than 25 years building technology for education and academic integrity. Today, its products are used by educational institutions, students, and professional organizations around the world, while the company continues expanding its use of AI in education.

For this role, that complexity creates an interesting writing challenge: how do you make sophisticated products feel clear and straightforward without losing accuracy?

What you'll be writing

You'll be part of the product development process rather than joining at the end to polish finished screens.

Working alongside designers, researchers, Product Managers, and engineers, you'll:

• Write and refine interface copy, onboarding content, error messages, and in-product guidance.
• Create user-facing guidance and release notes.
• Get involved early in the design process and help teams think through content before experiences are finalized.
• Turn complicated concepts and workflows into language users can understand quickly.
• Use research, product context, accessibility principles, and UX writing standards to guide content decisions.
• Explain the reasoning behind your writing choices to different stakeholders.
• Gather feedback without losing sight of the user's needs or the purpose of the experience.
• Manage work across multiple product areas using Jira and an Agile sprint process.

They're looking for more than excellent grammar

Strong writing is obviously important, but Turnitin also wants someone who understands how content affects the product experience.

You'll need around 2–7 years of relevant experience in UX writing, technical writing, or a closely related discipline.

Your background should demonstrate experience creating user-centered product content, particularly areas such as interface copy, onboarding, and guidance.

You'll also need to be comfortable using evidence to make decisions. Turnitin wants someone capable of taking insights from data or research and turning them into concrete content recommendations that can influence the product itself.

A strong writing portfolio is required and should show different approaches to solving content problems, ideally alongside the impact or outcomes of your work.

AI experience is a plus

Previous experience writing for or around AI-powered products would be valuable, although it isn't required.

Knowledge of CMS platforms such as Zendesk and experience working with structured content or HTML are also useful additions.
