OpenTrain AI
Contract
Apply
This job is curated by UX Remote Talent from external sources. We are not affiliated with the employer.

OpenTrain AI is looking for Visual Creative Experts to use their professional eye for photography, design, illustration and visual culture to help train next-generation AI systems.

This remote contract opportunity focuses on evaluating and curating images for AI training. You'll assess visual work for qualities such as composition, lighting, color, originality and technical execution, then explain the creative judgment behind your decisions.

Unlike many AI-training roles, previous AI experience isn't required. OpenTrain is primarily looking for people with strong visual expertise and the ability to recognize what makes creative work effective.

What You'll Do

You'll review collections of visual content and apply professional creative judgment to determine which images meet the project's aesthetic and quality standards.

Your work will include:

  • Review and curate collections of visual images.
  • Evaluate aesthetic and technical quality.
  • Assess composition, lighting, color, styling and visual impact.
  • Identify particularly strong or original creative work.
  • Write clear explanations supporting your selections.
  • Provide detailed and constructive visual critiques.
  • Apply consistent standards across different visual styles and formats.
  • Collaborate with trainers and other visual specialists.
  • Adapt as project guidelines and evaluation criteria evolve.
  • Help create diverse, high-quality datasets used in AI development.

Who They're Looking For

This opportunity is designed for creative professionals with a strong understanding of visual quality and aesthetics.

Relevant backgrounds include:

  • Graphic Design.
  • Brand Design.
  • Photography.
  • Art Direction.
  • Illustration.
  • Visual Curation.
  • Other professional visual arts disciplines.

You'll need to demonstrate both creative taste and critical judgment — not simply the ability to produce visual work yourself.

What You'll Need

OpenTrain is looking for candidates with:

  • Professional expertise in visual arts, design or photography.
  • Experience evaluating images or a demonstrably strong ability to assess visual work.
  • A portfolio or professional track record showing strong visual judgment.
  • An understanding of composition, lighting, color and visual storytelling.
  • The ability to identify originality and strong technical execution.
  • Experience critically reviewing, selecting or curating visual content.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • The ability to clearly explain creative decisions.
  • Awareness of current visual trends, cultural references and emerging aesthetics.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency.
  • The ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Fluent English.

No Previous AI Experience Required

You don't need previous AI-training experience to apply.

Your professional visual expertise is the primary skill OpenTrain is looking for.

The project gives designers and other creative professionals an opportunity to apply their existing knowledge in a different context: helping AI systems learn from human judgments about aesthetics, quality and creative intent.

That could make the role particularly interesting for creatives looking to gain exposure to the growing intersection between design and generative AI.

Location

This is a remote opportunity, but it is not worldwide.

Applicants must be based in one of the following countries:

  • United States.
  • Canada.
  • United Kingdom.
  • Australia.
  • New Zealand.
  • Ireland.
  • Switzerland.
  • Germany.
  • India.

Schedule & Contract

This is a flexible, part-time contractor engagement.

Hours: Under 20 hours per week
Expected duration: 3–6 months
Compensation: $21–$70/hour
Working language: English
Experience level: Intermediate
