Voice & Speech Analysis Specialist

OpenTrain AI
Contract
$30–$70 per hour
Apply
This job is curated by UX Remote Talent from external sources. We are not affiliated with the employer.

OpenTrain AI is looking for a Voice & Speech Analysis Specialist to evaluate short audio recordings and produce structured observations that can be used to train and assess AI voice systems.

This is a remote contractor opportunity focused on careful listening and analysis rather than audio production itself. You'll evaluate how people sound — including characteristics such as pitch, rhythm, accent, emotional tone and articulation — while also assessing the technical quality and environment of each recording.

The role pays $30–$70 per hour and requires a commitment of at least 20 hours per week.

What you'll be working on

You'll listen to short speech recordings and document their characteristics using consistent terminology and evaluation standards.

Your work may include:

  • Analyzing vocal quality and resonance.
  • Evaluating pitch, intonation and prosody.
  • Describing rhythm, tempo and breath support.
  • Assessing phonation and voice placement.
  • Evaluating articulation and speech clarity.
  • Identifying emotional tone and energy.
  • Comparing scripted, spontaneous and conversational speech.
  • Identifying accents and dialect characteristics when they can be assessed confidently.
  • Describing age or gender characteristics when sufficiently clear.
  • Evaluating recording environments and room sound.
  • Assessing audio captured using microphones, headsets and phones.
  • Producing accurate written reports for AI training and evaluation.

The emphasis is on objective, consistent observations, rather than subjective opinions about whether a particular voice sounds good or bad.

What they're looking for

OpenTrain AI is looking for people with a strong understanding of speech and voice characteristics.

Relevant knowledge includes:

  • Speech analysis.
  • Phonetics.
  • Prosody.
  • Pitch and intonation.
  • Accent and dialect variation.
  • Vocal quality.
  • Articulation.
  • Rhythm and tempo.

Knowledge of resonance, phonation, breath control and voice placement can also be valuable.

Audio & recording knowledge

Because you'll also evaluate the quality and characteristics of recordings, experience with audio can strengthen your application.

Useful knowledge may include:

  • Sound or audio engineering.
  • Recording environments.
  • Room acoustics.
  • Microphones.
  • Headsets.
  • Phone recordings.
  • Identifying differences in recording quality.

You'll need high-quality headphones, reliable internet access and an environment where you can listen carefully to recordings.

Relevant professional backgrounds

Previous experience in AI training isn't necessarily required.

OpenTrain highlights several backgrounds that may translate particularly well to this work, including:

  • Voice acting.
  • Voice coaching.
  • Dialect coaching.
  • Vocal pedagogy.
  • Speech-related disciplines.
  • Audio or sound engineering.

The position is listed as entry level, although candidates still need enough knowledge of speech terminology to evaluate recordings accurately.

Language requirements

You'll need at least B2-level English proficiency, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Professional proficiency in additional languages is also welcomed, provided you meet the required English level.

Because your observations will become part of structured AI training or evaluation data, precise written communication and consistent terminology are particularly important.

Compensation & schedule

OpenTrain AI lists compensation of:

$30–$70 per hour

The position is a part-time contractor role requiring at least 20 hours per week.

Work is completed remotely and asynchronously through digital platforms.

Location

This opportunity is available remotely across 53 eligible countries, rather than worldwide without restrictions.

The listing specifically includes countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, India, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and the United Arab Emirates, among others.

Candidates should confirm their country appears on the complete eligibility list when applying.

How to apply

The application process has two stages:

  1. Create a free account and apply through OpenTrain AI with your resume.
  2. Continue to the hiring platform and complete the remaining application process.

About AI voice training

Modern voice AI needs more than transcripts of what someone said. Models can also be evaluated on characteristics such as intonation, emotion, pacing, accent, vocal quality and recording conditions.

Human specialists provide the detailed judgments needed to describe those characteristics consistently.

In this role, your analysis becomes part of the human feedback used to help AI systems better understand and evaluate real-world speech.
