This job is curated by UX Remote Talent from external sources. We are not affiliated with the employer.

1KOMMA5° is looking for a Working Student AI Product Designer to join the team behind Heartbeat, its consumer mobile app for managing connected home energy systems.

This isn't positioned as a supporting design role. You'll work directly on the core product, taking part in the complete design process while exploring how AI can accelerate research, ideation, prototyping and product delivery.

The opportunity is particularly suited to a design student who already treats AI as part of their everyday workflow and wants hands-on experience building a complex technical product.

What You'll Be Designing

You'll work within the B2C mobile product team, helping turn complex energy systems and data into experiences that consumers can understand and use easily.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing core mobile app features from discovery through delivery.
  • Using AI throughout the design process to explore and develop solutions faster.
  • Rapidly prototyping new product concepts and interactions.
  • Conducting interviews, usability testing and surveys.
  • Turning complex technical information and data into simple user experiences.
  • Refining existing experiences from functional to highly polished.
  • Working directly with Product Managers, engineers and data scientists.
  • Advocating for user needs within a fast-moving technical environment.
  • Contributing to production-ready mobile experiences rather than isolated design exercises.

An AI-First Design Role

AI fluency is central to this opportunity.

1KOMMA5° is looking for someone who already uses AI tools regularly as part of their design workflow and can demonstrate that work.

The team's toolkit includes:

Figma, Cursor, Notion and Linear

Relevant skills include:

  • AI-first design
  • Rapid prototyping
  • UX and user research
  • Mobile app design
  • Data visualization
  • End-to-end product design

Who They're Looking For

You should currently be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree related to UX Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction or a similar discipline.

Rather than looking only for years of experience, 1KOMMA5° wants someone who demonstrates strong potential and a builder mentality.

You should be:

  • Comfortable incorporating AI into your everyday design process.
  • Strong across UX thinking, UI craft and visual design.
  • Familiar with mobile design patterns.
  • Able to take ambiguous problems and turn them into tangible solutions.
  • Comfortable working across the complete product design process.
  • Proactive and able to identify problems without waiting for detailed instructions.
  • Interested in actually building and shipping products, not simply creating concepts.
  • A clear written and verbal communicator.

English is the team's working language. German is an advantage but isn't presented as a requirement.

Why Join 1KOMMA5°?

You'll be contributing to technology designed to help households make better use of renewable energy.

The company combines solar systems, batteries, heat pumps and electric mobility through its Heartbeat platform, with the broader goal of creating an intelligent connected home energy system.

For a student designer, the role also offers the opportunity to gain real product experience inside a European scale-up and potentially progress into a full-time position.

Benefits

The opportunity includes:

  • Remote working throughout Germany.
  • Access to offices in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich.
  • Collaboration with an international Product & Tech organization.
  • Direct exposure to decision-makers.
  • Potential pathway into a full-time position.
  • EGYM Wellpass benefits.
  • FutureBens discounts.
  • The opportunity to work on technology connected to the renewable-energy transition.

AI-first Product Design is already becoming a hiring requirement

1KOMMA5° isn't simply listing AI as a bonus — they're specifically looking for a designer who uses AI every day and can demonstrate it in their work.

Designlab's AI Product Design Certification provides hands-on experience using AI throughout the product design process, from exploration and prototyping to designing AI-powered product experiences.
